For many of use, camping is a bittersweet adventure. Most of us tend to love the outdoors and camping is the ultimate way to escape with your loved ones, away from technology and day to day stress. But, just as there are positive aspects of camping, there is one negative aspect and this comes in the form of a portable toilet, or in this situation, lack thereof. If you have decided to really rough it, it is likely that you will not have any sturdy ablutions close by. Short of calling a portable toilet hire company to deliver your own portable toilet to the middle of the bush, you will have to suck it up and get in touch with nature. But if you refuse to become one with nature in that way, you can make your own toilet before you leave home and be fully prepared for your camping adventure.

Picture this. You are camping in the middle of nowhere when nature calls and you are too shy to make use of the wide open spaces to relieve yourself. You need a portable camping toilet, fast. Before you start panicking, there is a way in which you can make a makeshift temporary portable toilet that will serve its purpose for the time being. Making a portable temporary toilet before you leave for your trip will avoid this situation and survival enthusiasts have come up with this nifty idea for those who still wish to use portable toilets out in the wild.

You can make your portable temporary toilet at home before you leave for your trip to ensure that you are fully prepared for your camping adventure. You will need:

· A heavy duty plastic bag (preferably the ones that they use in hospitals as these bags are sanitized)

· A large plastic bucket

· Heavy duty tape or thick elastic bands

· Dry chemical disinfectant

Place the heavy duty bag inside the bucket and secure with the band or duct tape. Place a dry disinfectant inside - you can use salt, potting soil or even kitty litter - and there you have it! If you have a plastic toilet seat to secure to the top of the portable toilet (also done with duct tape) this will make it easier to sit on the bucket. Take an extra supply of plastic bags, dry chemical disinfectants and of course some soap to wash the bucket. This toilet may not be luxurious, but it will definitely be a luxury out in the middle of nowhere.

Beware though that this portable toilet is not sturdy so do not place all of your weigh on it. It is not a permanent measure and can be used only a few limited times. It is however, the perfect makeshift ablution for those of us who enjoy camping but still enjoy using a toilet when nature calls.
