What an Ionic Foot Bath Did For My Family

Although ionic foot baths have been available for several years, especially in the UK and Europe, it is still relatively unknown in the USA.

Our experience with it first originated when my 6 year old granddaughter was diagnosed with lymphoma. To hear the news that a loved one has cancer, especially when it is a child, is devastating to say the least. What were we going to do?

Our family has always leaned towards alternative medicine so we decided to research everything we could to see if we could handle this without doing the traditional chemotherapy and radiation. If we couldn't, we would go with the traditional methods.

We were very fortunate to have a very dear friend who pointed us in the right direction and hooked us up with a very knowledgeable doctor whose understanding of the human body and the effects of nutrition and environmental pollution, and how it relates to health, was absolute gold for us.

The first thing he did for us was change her diet. No sugar, no junk food what so ever, just pure nutrition for her body. She also took 37 different vitamins, minerals, herbs and homeopathies 7 times per day. Half of them were in liquid form that she could mix in with a little juice which made it a lot easier for her.

Basically we discovered that her body was over acidic from environmental toxins and too much over processed foods and disease thrives in this type of environment. We had to make her body more alkaline with health building nutritious foods, vitamins and herbs.

We also had to get all forms of chemicals out of the house and have her use natural shampoos, soaps, tooth pastes etc.

We also discovered that she was riddled with parasites so some of the herbs she took were for handling that. What a shock to see what was coming out of her body.

Because she was so toxic, we were introduced to the ionic foot bath which she did on a regular basis.

I am not a doctor but my understanding of the foot bath is this:

In a common plastic bucket, you place the metal array in clean water that has a little sea salt in it. The array puts out a very small current with positive and negative ions that circulate through the body. The oppositely charged toxins attach to them and by osmosis the toxins are pulled out through the pores of the feet. The clean water starts to change color depending on what organs are detoxing.

Dark brown/black- is the liver detoxing

Orange- the joints

Yellow- urinary tract

Dark green- gallbladder

Black flecks- heavy metals

Red flecks-blood clot material

White foam- lymph nodes draining

In all fairness, the water will change color to some degree without feet in it because the metal, water, salt and minerals will react. But what you are looking for is the sludge that floats on the top of the water that stains the sides of the bucket. We found some independent studies done with and without feet and it showed the mucus in the water that just the water, salt and the metal array wouldn't produce by itself.

In my research on the subject, some say, don't worry about what color the water changes to. Instead, notice what it is doing for you. I saw before and after pictures of blood samples of someone doing a foot bath. Before, the cells were clumped together in chains, and the after picture showed free flowing cells.

I was so impressed by the ionic foot bath, I purchased one for myself and my family. I had severe arthritis in my right elbow and I couldn't straighten my arm. After about five half hour sessions, I started to notice my elbow was not hurting as bad. After about nine or ten sessions, the arthritis was completely gone and I had complete motion back. After a year, my arthritis has not returned. What a blessing to be pain free.

My self and several family members reported a more clear headed feeling after doing a foot bath.

To make a long story short, my grand daughter is free of cancer and has been for two years. She has maintained her healthy lifestyle and nutritious meals and regular foot baths for maintenance.

It worked for my grand daughter and myself. Will it work for you? I don't know! That is something you decide for your self.

It is just my opinion that anything that helps you detox safely could only be good for a body.

Drills for Girls Softball

Less Talk, More Play

When choosing drills for girls softball practice, I always try to include as many drills as possible that keep everyone active. I've always found that the more standing around my girls do during practice negatively affects their performance both at practice and come game time. This is especially true when running infield practice drills, since playing infield requires quick reflexes and an active mentality. The following infield practice drills are dynamic and fast-moving, making them an excellent addition to your next practice or pre-game warm-up.

Infield Practice Drills 101

You'll get the most out of your infield practice drills for girls softball if you look for combination drills with throws to multiple bases, since that will keep more players involved in the play. In addition to a full infield, I like to run my drills with a catcher standing behind the hitter at home plate. After each hit, the hitter extends her hand backwards and receives the next ball from the catcher, allowing her to maintain constant watch on the field's events. Additionally, this speeds up the hitting process, which leaves less time for standing around and more time for practicing.

Pivot Your Way to a Double Play!

The first of the drills for girls softball infield practice aims to improve your players' pivot footwork when making the short throw to first. For this drill, you will need one feeder standing around shortstop with a bucket of balls, one receiver standing several steps from second base facing the feeder, and one first base player who stands on the base line midway between first and second.

To begin, the feeder throws to the receiver who catches the ball, pivots to face first base and throws the ball to the first base player. Continue in a fast-paced manner until the bucket of balls is empty and the players are to rotate positions. The emphasis on this drill is for the receiver to make a successful foot pivot, thereby saving her throwing arms because of the reduced distance.

Once your players have gotten the hang of the drill, don't forget to throw in a few curve balls to shake things up a little. In order to make things more difficult for this drill, set up obstacles such as a football dummy or equipment bag in the base path to make the pivot more challenging in simulation of game play.

For the next drill, your players will be practicing their double plays. To set up, have your infielders assume their regular defensive positions and a hitter at home plate. Instruct the batter to hit ground balls towards all the infielders one at a time and they are to field the ball as if it were a double play situation. Make sure the hitter employs a wide variety of hits including but not limited to slow grounders, line drives, and high bouncing balls.

Watch your infielders as they practice their double play pivots. Make sure to run the drill with actual runners once the players have gotten the hang of it so they can gauge the rhythm of the actual time involved in making a double play.

3. On 8 1/2" x 11" pieces of paper, draw pictures of houses and number them and then place them haphazardly on the floor in one room. Put the corresponding numbers into a bowl or a bucket and play some music. When you stop the music, pick a number and whoever is standing on the picture with that number will win the musical houses game. This can be done several times but be sure to remove the numbered houses on the floor as each number has been used. Winners will receive prizes.

4. Another version of this could be a cake walk. Using the numbered houses and the music again, when a number is called, the person standing on the numbered house could be the winner of a cake. This gives you the opportunity to show off your expertise as a cake baker.

5. If you really want to go all out with the prizes, have a lucky dip. Place papers into a bowl or bucket that have prize items listed on each slip. As each guest draws out a paper, give them the prize that is written on the paper. Prizes can be silly or serious. They can be things like matches, a child's birthday cake candle, assorted things that can be purchased at the looney store and perhaps one better than the others type of prize. It will all be the luck of the draw but your guests will have a good time hoping they are the one that gets that best prize.

6. Having a murder mystery game is another fun thing to do when there is a group of people. The host will explain the game and relate how and where the murder took place, i.e.: the victim was shot on a downtown street at 1:00 a.m. Then the host will have all guests close their eyes. The host will then tap the murderer once on the shoulder. The police inspector will be told ahead of time who he will be. All the other guests are suspects. The police inspector will question each of the suspects to determine who is the guilty person. Each suspect will have to try to allay any suspicions of the police inspector. The murderer can try to make someone else look guilty.

7. Try renting a karaoke machine and everyone can pretend they are their favorite singer.

8. If weather permits, take your guests out into your new backyard and play some games, i.e.: bocci ball, croquet, etc.

What better way to welcome friends to your home? And it's a great way to meet your new neighbors too. Plan your party and then laugh with your guests.

But to each his/her own, and if you'd rather that your leather product (whether it's a jacket, car upholstery, the sofa or even your handbag) smells something else entirely, then follow the tips and advice below. * The only true cure (sorry for that pun) for leather musk is age; wait for the smell to go away as the leather ages, that is. You could probably mask it with something else, but putting something on the leather will probably make it take longer for the smell to go away.

* Masking agents are often used to try and take care of problematic odors. The problem with a masking agent is it does just that, it "masks" or hides the leather odor; it will not remove it.

Masking agents are often oil based and can leave a residue on the materials being treated. Masking agents can also trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, such as runny noses and itchy watery eyes. A masking agent will also dissipate with time and it is possible that the original leather odor will return so use with caution.

Potpourri, air fresheners, The Body Shop Scents, a particularly fragrant shampoo, perfumes, lemon juice and whatnot are just some of the many examples you can use to mask that animal hide stench.

* You might want to go into a tack shop (horse supplies), if there's one nearby, and ask them for help. There are all sorts of leather conditioners and cleaners, and some of them can help cover the odor. Murphy's oil soap, which is always what cowboys used for cleaning saddles and boots, might also work (as well as making the leather shiny), but then again, many of those same cowboys are usually trying to keep the leather smell!

* On a small scale, leather odors can be removed by simply placing the offending article of clothing or leather product into an airtight container with baking soda for a few days. This restoration treatment however, may or may not work with this particular odor and it is certainly not possible to carry out on a large scale.

* Here's another baking soda trick; put your leather item in a bag/pillowcase. Sprinkle a liberal amount of bicarbonate soda in it. Fasten the bag up, give it a good shake, and then leave it in there for at least twenty-four hours. The baking soda should help absorb some of the odors.

* You can also put your leather item in a plastic bag with crumpled-up newspaper for a few days; it should absorb the odor. This is also part of the reason why some shoe stores put newspaper inside their leather shoe products (aside from avoiding the shoe to warp because of the hollow insides).

* Activated charcoal may work just as well as the newspaper method, but you don't want it to touch your leather item because it will ruin and stain its surface.

* You can also sponge the jacket down with ¼ cup of white vinegar to a bucket or sink of water. Sponge down your beloved leather jacket with the solution. Rinse afterwards, then apply the vinegar solution again, then rinse once more and hang to dry some place out of direct sunlight as heat can damage leather.

Vinegar will condition and clean leather and remove odors, or at least it will once its own sourness dissipates from your leather item. You can do this occasionally or when it gets heavily soiled.

* You can place pandan leaf on your smelly leather item as well. Pandan (P. amaryllifolius) leaves are used in Southeast Asian cooking to add a distinct aroma to rice and curry dishes such as nasi lemak, kaya ('jam') preserves, and desserts such as pandan cake.

Fresh leaves are typically torn into strips, tied in a knot to facilitate removal, placed in the cooking liquid, then removed at the end of cooking. Dried leaves and bottled extract may be bought in some places.

* You can also substitute Febreze with most of the cleaning agents here. Febreze uses a chemical compound called cyclodextrin that has been used in household and custodial cleaning products for quite some time.

The sugar-like substance doesn't necessarily "clean" the leather odors out, but acts as an absorbent-like baking soda or crumpled newspaper, to help soak the leather odor out.

* You can also dip the leather apparel in a bucket of bleach, rubbing alcohol or an ammonia solution for about an hour. You will then find that the foul smell has been replaced by a lovely hospital smell that will certainly attract the nostrils of young gentlemen. A reapplication of leather conditioner afterwards may be necessary.

Here are some words of warning, though; make sure to do some colorfastness test on the leather to make sure it won't fade because of the bleach. It would also be advisable to use oxygen bleach instead of chlorine bleach to avoid fading and drying in the first place.

What is the difference between Full Grain, Top Grain, Genuine and Bonded leather?

All leather isn't equal and it is important to understand the differences when you are buying leather products. Leather is a natural material. It is strong, breathes, insulates and molds to your body. It is a combination of beauty and strength. Just how beautiful and how strong, however, are influenced by the hide source, cut and process.

* Full Grain Leather: This is the best leather money can buy. It is taken from the top layer of hide and shows the natural markings and grain of the leather. The natural surface of full grain leathers burnish and beautify with use. Full Grain Leather burnishes over time.

This is the exceptional leather used in thick leather goods and leather accessories. Top quality cow and water buffalo full grain leathers are extremely strong and durable. It is used in luxury briefcases and expensive saddles and bridles.

It's this type of leather that has the most 'musk' of all the other types. This sought after (or not-so-sought after) smell makes it distinct among all the rest.

* Top Grain Leather: This is the second highest grade of leather. Top grain leather is split from the top layer of blemished hide and is sanded and refinished. Top grain leather does not burnish and beautify with use, but it is as strong and durable as full grain leather.

* Bonded Leather: Bonded Leather is leather's bottom. Suede scraps are ground together with glue and resurfaced in a process similar to vinyl manufacture. Bonded leather is weak and degrades quickly with use.

* Genuine Leather: This is produced from the layers of hide that remain after the top is split off for the better grades. These weaker under layers are known as suede. (Don't be confused with the fuzzy finish also referred to as "suede.") The suede surface is usually refinished to resemble a higher grade. It can be smooth or rough. Caution: The inferior quality of genuine leather becomes evident with use.
